Brad with the clean sweep tonight. These Secrets of Strixhaven precons appear to be unstoppable. I can’t wait till we get all five of them together for one game.

Just like the last time I played Marchesa, the Black Rose, I was the player with the highest life total for most of the game, so I was only able to trigger the dethrone ability once the entire game. I need to add more cards to the deck that let me pay life as a cost, I’ve only got two in the deck and I never saw either of them this game. Luckily, the one creature I got to dethrone was Solemn Simulacrum, so I was able to get two lands with him. Just because I couldn’t dethrone didn’t mean I wasn’t going to not cause some shenanigans (that was a lot of negatives). I had some good ramp and got Keiga, the Tide Star out on turn 5. Casting Tenured Inkcaster on turn 6 let me get a +1/+1 counter on Keiga.

Michael got Thespian Stage and Dark Depths out early game so he was able to create Merit Lage on turn 6.

Meanwhile Brad is sitting over there with Manaform Hellkite and 5 more copies thanks to a kicked Rite of Replication and his commander is making bigger and bigger elemental creature tokens.

I was able to keep both Michael and Brad in check for a while thanks to a combination of Priest of Forgotten Gods and Captivating Crew. I’d steal a creature from each of them, attack them with it, then use Priest to sac them before my turn was done.  When Keiga died the first time I gained control of Brad’s commander instead of Merit Lage on the condition that Michael doesn’t attack me with it. On Michaels turn he attacked me with it anyway, so I blocked with my returned Keiga who died yet again, but this time I took control of Merit Lage.

The game continued like this for a couple more rounds, but then Brad starts turn 11 and laid the smack down. He started his turn by casting Mana Geyser and added 14 mana to his pool. Next came Magma Opus, tapping my big blocker Merit Lage. After that Brad cast Furygale Flocking and then Volcanic Torrent which wiped out every remaining creature Michael or I had. Brad then steamrolled us, he had twice as much attacking power as we had life remaining. It was very exciting.
