This match was very difficult. Matt’s reanimator deck was operating at peak efficiency. Steve and I did everything within our power to keep him in check. Meanwhile, poor Michael has one land drop in his first 6 turns and doesn’t cast his first creature spell until turn11.
I started out a strong threat, but poor card draw and a turn 9 Ruinous Ultimatum from Matt stopped that. I never recovered.
Matt seemed unstoppable at that point, his ability to keep bringing back his creatures from the graveyard never slowed, at least he was gracious enough to spread the damage around… eventually, early game he kept attacking Michael so he could trigger Terra, Herald of Hope. He had so many creatures he couldn’t fit them all on his playmat.
That was actually what killed him in the end, having all those creatures. Steve cast Carnifex Demon. That card, along with The Scorpion God and his commander,Auntie Ool, Cursewretch, Steve was able to win the game by pinging us out.
It was really close at the end. Steve only had 1 life left when he won.
