This was a wild game. Three of the decks got to do a lot of fun shit. Poor Steve was mana screwed for most of the game.

Volo, Guide to Monsters was so much fun to play. I got to clone a bunch of awesome creatures. Centaur of Attention gave me some nice attacking power early game and Sabotage Strategist protected me from Michaels attacking robots. The cloned Solemn Simulacrum saved me from sharing Steve’s fate. I had a battlefield full of great creatures, but so did Michael and Brad.

Brad cast Gisa, Glorious Resurrector, which made everyone a little more hesitant to attack. He did get my centaur though, but then I copied Gisa with Spark Double.

Meanwhile Michael had both Mr. House, President and CEO and Mirkwood Bats out in turns 3 and 4. With all the dice Michael was rolling his battlefield filled with robot and treasure tokens, and his bats were pinging all of us. Brad was down to 4 life in turn 7, and I took him out on my turn because I thought Michael was going to have the game on his next turn and I wanted to get a kill in.

That didn’t happen. Instead, Michael and I poked at each other for a couple more turns, but my creatures were bigger and I had my copy of his Gisa, so I was now growing my army even larger with Michael’s creatures.

Turn 12 we were down to Michael with 4 life, me with 2 life, and Steve still had 18.

Steve also was finally got a land on turn 9 and he he started to build up his battlefield. He cast Obelisk of Naya which finally gave him some red,  on turn 10 he cast Solemn Recruit and his commander, Archaeon the Everchosen, on turn 11.  And that was his whole battlefield.

On turn 12 Michael asked Steve if he could do anything because he couldn’t see a path to victory against me. Steve said he did. I’m nervous because I’ve got no mana available. So Michael finished his turn and passed to Steve. Steve cast Blessing of the Oracle giving his creatures flying, vigilance, double strike, lifelink, indestructible, and protection from each color. Michael didn’t have any colorless flyers and my flyers were blue. Steven gets the W.

And just like the very first game of commander we played together, Steve won after being left alone for most of the game because he was mana screwed. The lesson to take here is Steve is a sneaky bastard who can’t be trusted… ever.
